probably Italian circa 1620, straight tapering diamond cross-section 12 1/2in. blade with concave sides, the forte on the reverse with flat section possibly for a shell guard, long iron drooping quillions, the cross-guard with integral thumb-ring, spirally wound wire-bound grip and faceted tea-cosy pommel with button top
